Fettes Park is a residential neighbourhood situated in Tanjung Tokong, Penang. The neighbourhood has been around since the construction of the Guillemard Reservoir on a hill just behind the neighbourhood in 1929. The housing estate was aptly named after J.D Fettes, who was the municipal engineer of Georgetown in charge of the project. In the past, Fettes Park was generally a neighbourhood of working class residents. However, as residents began stabilising financially, the area has become increasingly gentrified over these 20 years with many of the old homes getting face-lifts. Recently in the year 2011, a high-rise condominium residence, Fettes Residences, was also developed in the area. Housing in Fettes Park include 3 types of semi-detached homes, namely Type A, which is 3,500 sf in built-up size, Type B, at 3,380 sf and Type C at 4,600 sf. The 35-storey Fettes Residence condominium on the other hand, has standard suites sized a minimum 2,000 sf and penthouse units at 4,000 sf. Surrounded by matured commercial hubs and numerous new residential developments, Fettes Park is close to various amenities like banks, convenience stores, petrol stations and eateries. Within the vicinities of Fettes Park is also TESCO Seri Tanjung Pinang and Straits Quay Marina Mall. Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon shopping malls in Gurney Drive are also just a short 10 minutes drive away. Fettes Park is also conveniently close to Georgetown, Tanjung Bungah, and Batu Ferringhi via several main roads in the area, including Jalan Tanjung Tokong, Jalan Mount Erskine and Jalan Seri Pinang, which connects to Jalan Burmah and Jalan Kelawai. However, these roads are frequently travelled and may therefore, be congested during peak hours, weekends and public holidays.
