Batu Pahat town is the capital of the Batu Pahat district in Johor, Malaysia. Its origins date back to 1892, when local mayors of villages around the area went to Sultan Abu Bakar, ruler of Johor during the time, to ask for permission to establish a township in Batu Pahat. It was believed that Batu Pahat may emulate the success of Muar during the time. Simpang Kanan, near the Batu Pahat river bay was then chosen as the spot for this new township.
