Section 1 is one of the original housing developments in Petaling Jaya, constructed during the British occupancy to accommodate the overflow of population from Kuala Lumpur. The houses here have over time increased in value, but nevertheless, many of the buildings still retain their original old-fashioned structure.

As of the current age, the area is often affectionately referred to as “PJ Old Town” by the locals. The area is mainly occupied by the Chinese, and although there has been attempts to upgrade the area, it still retains a slightly seedy look to outsiders. Visitors to this area are often advised by the locals to beware of snatch thefts, a rampant and common occurrence.
