Taman Teratai is a neighbourhood located off Jalan Ong Yi How in Butterworth. It is a very short distance away from the main road of Jalan Raja Uda, contributing to the value and prices of the properties in the neighbourhood. Other nearby neighbourhoods include Taman Segemal, Taman Sena, Taman Teratai Indah and Taman Pandan.

The nearest school is SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth, about 10 minutes on foot and 2 minutes by car.

Buses pass by along Jalan Ong Yi How, in front of Taman Teratai – in particular, Rapid Penang bus 604, which goes between the Penang Sentral train, bus and ferry terminal in Butterworth, and Sungai Dua in Seberang Perai. By car and with non-congested traffic, one can get to Penang Sentral from the neighbourhood within about 15 to 20 minutes.

From Penang Sentral, ferries depart to the Penang Island, stopping in Georgetown, the state capital. There is yet another way to get to the island – via the Penang Bridge, which is about 16 to 17km away from Taman Teratai.

To drive to the Penang Bridge, residents can either take the older trunk road, Jalan Bagan Ajam, or the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR). The latter is closer to the neighbourhood, about 2 minutes away, while the former route is not much further either, just under 5 minutes.
