Farlim is an old township on the island of Penang that is being revamped. It was originally known as the Thean Teik Estate which was named after Khoo Thean Teik, and was later purchased Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi in the 1920s. The township used to comprise mainly of low and medium cost developments.

Due to its proximity to Georgetown the capital of Penang, Farlim is undergoing through massive redevelopment, and the main focus of its activities now is in Bandar Baru Ayer Hitam. The aim of the redevelopment is to transform this haphazard township into a fully integrated township.

The redevelopment area comprises 356 acres and will include residential and commercial developments, which the latter will include banks, clinics, police stations, post offices, education institutions and so forth.

Farlim is home to two hypermarkets, a Giant hypermarket and a local brand of hypermarket - Sunshine Farlim Shopping Mall. The Giant Hypermarket is housed at the local strip mall All Seasons Place. There is also an Econsave in the neighbourhood. Farlim is served by the Rapid Penang Busses 202 and 203.

Although it is a fairly busy township, Farlim has pockets of greens such as at the Medan Angsana Public Park which has a jogging track and playground. It is located in the middle of town, and is surrounded by the local shops. This public park is also used as a site of the local weekly night market.

Farlim is a township that is mostly focused on commercial activities. Unlike many of its neighbouring townships, Farlim does not have its own local attractions. They do however have a great many choices of F&B outlets, and they also have their own Permata Sports Complex.

The main road of Farlim is Lebuhraya Thean Teik which runs through the township, and provides convenient accessibility to Jalan Tun Dr Awang. Due to the rapid development that Farlim is going through, its population is increasing steadily and its roads are gradually getting more congested. Getting to the capital of Penang, Georgetown, is however only 15 minutes away in clear traffic, while the Penang mainland is 20 minutes way under clear traffic conditions.
