About Labis

Properties for Rent in Labis

Labis is a major town in the Johor’s Segamat district. With just tens of thousands of residents, Labis does not have a huge population, giving it a rather peaceful atmosphere. Industrial facilities and agricultural lands can be found on the outskirts of the town, helping to create a demand for residential properties within Labis.

Labis’s development radiates outward from Kampung Paya Merah, where the town is said to have started. Jalan Labis, part of Federal Route 1, is the main road of the town. Many of its amenities are situated on either side of this road. The Labis town centre is also where you’ll find government buildings like the District Council of Labis and the National Registration Department (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara).

Other amenities along this road include a police station, post office, restaurants and food stalls, shops, convenience stores, clinics, car service centres, petrol stations and Dataran Labis, an open space for sports, leisurely strolls and even bazaars and carnivals. Most of the major banks have branches in the town centre, for example Maybank, Bank Rakyat, Hong Leong Bank, CIMB Bank and Bank Simpanan Nasional.

The Labis train station, where KTM Intercity trains depart to and arrive from other states in western Peninsular Malaysia, is located just off Jalan Labis, on Jalan Stesen. One can also travel to other parts of Malaysia from the bus and taxi terminal of Labis.

Residents of Labis have several primary and secondary schools to select from, ranging from national Malay-medium schools like SMK Munshi Ibrahim, SK LKTP Maokil 2 and SK Labis, to the Chinese-medium SJK (C) Labis and SJK (C) Karas, and even a Tamil-medium primary school, SJK (T) Labis.

However, there are no tertiary educational institutions in Labis. Instead, one has to travel to Segamat, about 20 minutes away via Jalan Labis and Jalan Segamat, to get to the nearest community college. Segamat is also where Hospital Segamat, the nearest hospital to Labis, is located.

Heading westward from Labis is Jalan Muar-Labis, which connects the town to Muar in the southwest within about 1.5 hours, via towns like Pagoh and Bukit Pasir. At Pagoh, Jalan Muar-Labis also intersects the North-South Expressway (NSE), which links to other towns and states in Peninsular Malaysia.
