About Klang

Properties for Sale in Klang

When you say “Klang,” the first thing that most people think of is the aromatic smell of the city’s renowned and authentic bak kut teh, a local meat dish cooked in herbal broth. Being one of the oldest cities in Malaysia, Klang contains many historical beauties that even locals might miss.

Formerly known as “Kelang” by older generations, it used to be a royal capital of the Selangor state and is a royal city that possesses a history that predates even Melaka. In fact, remnants of prehistoric civilization such as Bronze Age artefacts have been found here. The city was also mentioned in mid 14th century literary work from the era of the Majapahit Empire and was once a place of chaos and civil war. It would be fascinating to explore the rich heritage mostly forgotten through time.

The origins of the name “Klang” has two theories. One of them is that it came from the Mon-Khmer word “Klong,” which translates to canal or waterway. This may refer to the rivers that run through the town. The second theory is that it might have derived from the Malay word “kilang,” the traditional name for “warehouses,” referring to how it used to be full of warehouses.

In recent times, it has risen to one of the best towns to visit in Klang Valley because of the abundant offerings like good food and attractions. These include tourist spots and historical monuments such as the Alam Shah Palace, Raja Mahadi Fort, Tugu Keris, and the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery. Moreover, despite being an area that is predominantly populated by Chinese Malaysians, Klang has a place called the Little India where you can experience a colourful street filled with exciting Indian culture and cuisine. It changes into a bright and lively place during Deepavali season, offering a delightful experience for any visitor walking through.

Also located within is Port Klang, home to one of the busiest container and transshipment ports in the world. The houses and cost of living in Klang are relatively lower than in the city centre, despite being only around 30 minutes away from Kuala Lumpur. The city is well-connected to the rest of Klang Valley via major highways such as Federal Highway, the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), the North Klang Straits Bypass and KESAS Highway.

Klang is the perfect city to settle down in if you seek a calm life within a self-contained township. Being situated further away from the bustling city centre has its perks. It’s quieter but it provides enough for the residents.
