Bukit Minyak is an industrial town located in the northern state of Penang. It is situated on the mainland, and is technically in Simpang Ampat which is in the region of Seberang Perai. Seberang Perai is neighboured by Bukit Mertajam, and Bukit Minyak is close to Permatang Tinggi.

The main driving economy of Bukit Minyak are its industrial plants. Most of the major factories located in the north have their factories here, including Pensonic. The factories are mostly situated in the Bukit Minyak Industrial Park and the Penang Science Park. The residential components are mainly in Juru.

Bukit Minyak was named after Kampung Bukit Minyak which is located along the river of Sungai Juru. The main trunk road that serves Bukit Minyak is the naturally Jalan Bukit Minyak, which in turn provides connectivity to Jalan Bukit Tengah. For those who run a business from Bukit Minyak, travelling out of the town is easy as the North-South Highway is located to the west of the town.

Public transportation is poor in this town. The local bus service provider, Rapid Penang, does not service this area regularly. In fact, the easiest way to travel around this town via public transport is if you are a factory worker, whereby the workers can commute via factory busses.

The residents of Bukit Minyak do however have a local shopping mall where they can do their grocery shopping at, in form of Aeon Big Bukit Minyak. This hypermarket which was previously known as Carrefour Bukit Minyak is situated at the junction of Jalan Bukit Minyak and Jalan Bukit Tengah. The hypermarket is fronted by two rows of shophouses.

Bukit Minyak is also the chosen ground for opening the Juru AutoCity. As its name suggests, this is go-to place for buying any motorised vehicle. All the major brands are represented here, including both local and international brands. But what makes this place attractive to those not shopping for a car is the shopping centre here that has all the popular F&B franchises such as Haagen Dazs, Manhattan Fish Market and Coffee Bean.

Getting to Georgetown the capital of Penang will require an approximate 35 minutes drive, while the Penang International Airport is about a 30-minute drive away as well.
