Perak is a state located north of Peninsular Malaysia. It is the fourth largest state in the country, which the capital of the state is Ipoh. Perak borders Kedah to its North and Selangor to the South, and was known for its tin-mining activities until the price of metal dropped.

Perak is generally renowned to be a quiet and tranquil state, which now draws tourists with its tasty food which cannot be found anywhere else in Malaysia. Both local and international tourists frequent this state for its chicken rice in the Ipoh city centre and its soya bean. The popular Old Town White Coffee franchise in Malaysia also originated from Perak where the original coffeeshop still exists.

Other tourist attractions in Perak includes the Sam Poh Tong temple which is built into a cave, and the Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat which charges a bomb but is generally still always fully booked during peak seasons. The latter is located in a valley and surrounded by a forest, and was built for the purpose of restoring overall wellbeing while connecting visitors back to nature.

The Lost World of Tambun theme park which is surrounded by a 400 million year old limestone mountain also draws a fairly steady number of tourists. The other cave which is popular to explorers all year round is Gua Tempurung, while located in Batu Gajah in Ipoh is Kellie’s Castle which is purported to be haunted.

Perak is also a great place for outdoor lovers as the state offers many outdoor activities that are generally only available in wilder terrain, such as Grade 3 white water rafting, jungle trekking and waterfall abseiling.

All in all, Perak is also a popular place for retirees as the cost of living in this state is relatively lower as compared to the city of Kuala Lumpur, while still offering a complete array of modern conveniences.
