Ipoh is the capital city of Perak, and is best known for its laid-back and quiet lifestyle, its food and its beauty in nature. It is located approximately two hours north of Kuala Lumpur on the way to Penang, and is also one of the largest cities in Malaysia. This beautiful city is home to caves, mountains and lakes.

Of some of the most famous tourist attractions in this quiet city is Sam Poh Tong, a Chinese temple that is built into the very caves of the mountain itself. It is one of the oldest temples in Malaysia and is famous for its serene place within the caves.

The other attractions of this city lies in its extremely tasty food which is attributed to the hard water of the state as they get their water from the mountains. Visitors of Ipoh flock to the city centre for the famous chicken rice, which comes at very affordable prices as compared to the city of Kuala Lumpur for very large portions. Their beansprouts which they are famous for are also fatter than those that can be found in Kuala Lumpur.

Aside from their chicken rice, Ipoh is also famous for its soya bean which is especially popular at Funny Mountain shop - although this place has mixed reviews. Visitors love it, but locals say that there is nothing special about its taste or texture.

The popular and trendy F&B chain of Old Town White Coffee in Malaysia was also born in Ipoh, where the original shop still exists and is also known by the name of Nam Heong. But surprisingly, in Ipoh the more popular coffee shop is Sin Yoon Loong which is located just opposite Nam Heong. Unfortunately, this shop does not have any branches nor franchises.

As a result of its tranquil livelihood, not just many Malaysians; but also foreigners; have chosen to make their retirement home in Ipoh. Aside from getting to enjoy a luxurious life in a city of relatively low cost of living, they also get to enjoy all the conveniences of modern lifestyle in a quiet environment.
