Kuching is the capital of Sarawak that offers culturally rich demographic, with a population of approximately 650,000. This has made the city increasingly popular amongst expatriates who are looking to retire, where they can get the best of both world - city life and a relaxing environment.

From Peninsular Malaysia, the easiest way to get to Kuching is by air and there are numerous daily flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Johor Bahru's Senai International Airport.

A well preserved and a very compact city, some of the local places of interest in Kuching are Sarawak Museum, The Astana, Fort Margherita and Tua Pek Kong Temple. There are also nearby national parks which are popular among tourists such as Bako, Gunung Gading, Kuching Wetlands, Kubah, Semenggoh, and Matang Wildlife Centres.

According to local news, although the property market here is not fast-moving, it is continuously rising, especially in the residential segment, which was greatly affected by the growing workforce. To date, the market seems to be stagnant due to the mismatch between annual income and house pricing.

Based on a research by Institute Rakyat, it is shown that the price of an average home in Sarawak is over nine times more than the annual income of a typical Sarawakian family. This ranks Sarawak under the critically unaffordable area category in the Malaysian housing affordability index, beating metropolitan Kuala Lumpur. Nonetheless, with its ever growing workforce, the future of Kuching remains promising.
