Cheras South falls within the town of Cheras, an already established area that continues to expand rapidly. The area received its name due to recent property development moving southwards towards Balakong in Selangor. As a result, residents in Cheras unofficially sanctioned the area as Cheras Selatan or South Cheras.

The area comprises mostly of freehold land with residential developments like Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras Perdana, Puncak Perdana, and Taman Cheras Jaya. A highly strategic and central location, it only takes the average road user 10 minutes to reach the Kuala Lumpur city centre, and 45 minutes to reach KLIA. Cheras South has a wide range of homes from the lower end apartments to the highly-priced luxury condominiums that come with fully-extensive condominium facilities.

Cheras South is a truly self-sustainable suburban neighbourhood with most of its residents enjoying the comforts of convenience. Restaurants and eateries are an abundance in the area, not to mention a number of retail shoplots selling custom-made items.

Also found within Cheras South are shopping malls and hypermarkets such as the Aeon Jusco Mahkota Cheras, Carrefour, Giant, and the Connaught Market Centre, respectively. Cheras South is not short of banking facilities either, and Pantai Hospital Cheras happens to be the local major hospital.

There are quite a number of highways leading in and out of Cheras South. Commuters have the option of either using the highways or public transport provided via public buses and the Star LRT which stops at the Cheras Station and the Maluri Station (along the Ampang line). Accessibility of public transportation is expected to improve when the current work on the MRT lines is completed in the near future.

Cheras itself may be seen as a hotspot for drug activities, armed robberies, and snatch thefts but with raids and operations carried out by law enforcement agencies, the crime rate in specific target areas would decrease.
