Meru is a town in the Klang district of Selangor. Meru is located in a relatively strategic location as it takes an average person to drive about 8km-10km to Klang town, 20km to Shah Alam, 25km to Subang Jaya, 30km to Kuala Lumpur, and 60km to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Home to Top Glove, the nation’s largest producer of latex gloves as well as numerous small-medium industrial complexes, the town is gradually losing its prominence, especially the Klang Parade as there are newer towns in Klang with newer shopping malls.

A prime example is Bandar Bukit Tinggi, a new and modern township in the south of Klang. However, due to recent property and commercial development at nearby areas such as Setia Alam, Klang Sentral, and Bandar Bukit Raja, Meru is set to see an increase in traffic volume.

After the completion of Klang Parade’s major refurbishment in September 2014 by ARA Asset Management Ltd., the mall has become more vibrant and is able to meet the ever-changing needs of the surrounding community while remaining true to its core proposition of being a mall for the people of Klang. Traffic in Meru remains low in the minds of its residents as it is not as densely populated and crowded yet.

In the recent years, Meru has caught the attention of several developers with the completion of the Klang Sentral transport hub and property development in Setia Alam. In hopes of Meru slowly becoming a hotspot for urban dwellers and realtors, it is estimated that the property boom may soon hit this township.

The Klang Sentral transport hub serves as the heartbeat of Meru’s development, and is fast becoming a thriving catchment area with an estimated 100,000 people passing through the transport hub daily with a total population of 800,000 in the surrounding areas. With the sudden development fever surrounding Meru, it is without a wonder that more developers are looking to profit from the boom.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.644% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 2.093% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 3.448% in the year 2014 while surging by 2.523% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 105.1 in 2012, 107.3 in 2013, 111.0 in 2014, 113.8 in 2015.

I love staying here because there are a lot of delicious food! Like Bak Kut Teh, chicken rice, cost of living here better than in the city. Few break-ins in this area, there have been cases but they're rare. Access to NKVE and Federal Highway is good.
