Rawang, Selangor

Neighbourhood Review

Serendah is a small town located in Hulu Selangor and is home to two popular tourist spots, the Perigi Tujuh Serendah (Seven Wells) and Sekeping Serendah (a nature retreat).

The Perigi Tujuh Serendah boasts the Seven Wells or Seven Walls, which becomes a beautiful 7-level waterfall falling from 3 metres high during torrential rains. The name ‘Serendah’ means that the area is located at low level as it was initially a tin mining town in the past, and the Seven Wells was built to prevent flooding.

Other attractions that Serendah is popular for is their waterfalls dubbed the Serendah Falls which attracts many locals during the weekends, while fishing is also great sport for visitors while the more refined ones would enjoy the Serendah Golf Resort.

Despite being a small town, the residents of Serendah are made up of various religions, hence, the town houses a number of Chinese temples, a mosque and a number of surau, a Sikh temple, and other religious structures from other religions. Arguably the most exclusive residential area in this small and sleepy town would be Taman Serendah Utama which boasts a gated and guarded housing development.

In April 2007, the Serendah Komuter station was built about 2km northwest from the town alongside the Rasa and Batang Kali Komuter stations. As of now, only the North-South Expressway leads commuters to Serendah while the RM400 million Kuala Lumpur Arah Serendah Expressway (KLAS) is currently undergoing planning and development to provide easier access for commuters.

Did you know?

A consumer price index (CPI) measures changes in the price level of a market basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households. (Wikipedia)

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.644% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 2.093% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 3.448% in the year 2014 while surging by 2.523% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 105.1 in 2012, 107.3 in 2013, 111.0 in 2014, 113.8 in 2015.

Community of Serendah

Plenty of hidden gems around Serendah town area. Mostly not known by foreign tourists. The easiest way to get here is by KTM Komuter.
Jarak di antara Serendah ke KL sudah tidak jauh dengan adanya Rawang Bypass semenjak awal 2018. Laluan ini akan membawa terus ke Selayang tanpa perlu memasuki Bandar Rawang.
