Kuala Lumpur is the federal capital and the most populous city in Malaysia, and is home to some of the nation’s most elite and affluent residents. As Kuala Lumpur is rather large, it has eleven districts that falls under its governance and within each of these districts, there are plenty of high end residential areas.

In its earlier days, Kuala Lumpur was a small and obscure settlement, which eventually boomed due to its natural resources. Kuala Lumpur today comes with many international attractions such as the Petronas Twin Towers and the Kuala Lumpur Tower, as well as the renowned shopping galleries of Bukit Bintang.

Known to be a shopping haven, visitors of Kuala Lumpur have the choice of visiting shopping malls such as Pavilion Kuala Lumpur which houses almost every single internationally renowned elite brand, otherwise they can make their way to Lowyat Mall for some of the cheapest gadgets or to Sungai Wang Plaza for some of the most affordable fashion in the city.

Kuala Lumpur has a wide range of properties to choose from, from low-cost apartments to zero-lot bungalows. In addition, living in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur will provide one with ease of access to public transportations such as trains and monorails which are most unfortunately susceptible to being overcrowded during rush hours.

Consumer Price Index

This is a representation of Kuala Lumpur Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the year of 2011 - 2015

Did you know?

A consumer price index (CPI) measures changes in the price level of a market basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households. (Wikipedia)

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.363% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 1.633% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 3.308% in the year 2014 while surging by 3.019% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 104.1 in 2012, 105.8 in 2013, 109.3 in 2014, 112.6 in 2015.
