Section 5 of Bandar Mahkota Cheras is one of the newer housing developments in the area that stood empty for many years upon completion as many of the buyers were property speculators.

Located within a somewhat active part of Cheras just opposite Jaya Jusco, many expect capital appreciation of these homes to be good; with a number of the original buyers having already made a handsome profit off their purchase.

The only incident to have seriously marred the history of Section 5 of Bandar Mahkota Cheras was a robbery cum rape case which happened in 2009 where a group of migrants working on the new developments stopped a couple in their car to rob them and rape the girl. This case left the residents feeling extremely shaken and fearful for their safety.
