Description
Desa Mentari is a high rise, high density low cost flat that was built to relocate squatters nearby. Although there is a security force within the compounds of the flat, the crime rate here is exceptionally high, mainly due to its location and the exceptionally high population density.
In addition to this, there was a raid conducted by the police due to the existence of a brothel. A fight occurred in 2001 and that left several people dead, with scores injured.
Other issues that were highlighted in the media includes suspected gangsters being caught while hiding in Desa Mentari and the occasional drug raids. Desa Mentari is definitely a place to avoid as there are other low-cost residential areas that are safer.
