South Homes is an mixed neighbourhood of residences and commercial properties, most possibly named after its location in Sungai Ara, close to the southern end of the Penang island. The development consists of 47 landed terraces and semi-detached homes and 8 commercial shop lots, all freehold and completed in 2013.

The South Homes residences are spacious, with both types being 3 storeys in height. Understandably, the 41 terraces are slightly more snug, with built-up spaces of 3,679 sf for each unit. These homes offer 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, ample for a family of any size. The semi-detached units are even more expansive, with a total built-up area of 4,059 sf. This variant also includes an extra bedroom and bathroom compared to the former, with only 6 units available.

Each South Homes unit offers high ceilings and a large balcony on the first floor, making a great space for families to lounge in the evenings or even function as a space to hang clothes to dry and such. This could be a complement to the car porch, which may be rather narrow after parking 2 vehicles inside. There is also a smaller balcony on the top floor.

The appeal of the 3-storey commercial units hold is its proximity to the residences within South Homes, where businesses like mini markets and eateries there will be the first and more convenient choice for residents. To add, the neighbourhood is within reach of many other residential developments surrounding it, making it a high population catchment area. Its proximity to the Bayan Lepas industrial zone also makes it ideal for companies related to the industries.

Apart from the shop lots within South Homes, other amenities are also accessible from the neighbourhood. These include schools like the Straits International school, SJK (C) Chung Shan, SJK (C) Chong Cheng, SK Bayan Lepas, SMK Sungai Ara, SK Mutiara Perdana, the Fairview International School and Seri Relau National School. The popular Queensbay Mall is also just 15 about minutes away, while the Bayan Bay commercial hub is also there, offering amenities like banks, restaurants, clinics and more. There is also a Giant hypermarket in nearby Bayan Baru.

Located along Jalan Tun Dr. Awang, South Homes is accessible to Bayan Baru just up the road and Bayan Lepas down south. Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah is also directly linked to the road, enabling access to Bayan Lepas, Batu Maung and the second Penang bridge via Jalan Permatang Damar Laut, as well as other towns like Gelugor, Jelutong, the first Penang bridge further up north. The route also leads to Georgetown, about 40 minutes away with the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway providing an alternative way to these key locations as well.
