Petaling Street is a famous and highly-visited street in the Kuala Lumpur city centre. Fondly known as the KL Chinatown among foreigners, it is situated adjacent to Jalan Bandar and Jalan Sultan and offers a variety of items for sale. It is home to a number of hostels and backpackers’ inns as well as the food stalls and restaurants where local favourites and delicacies can be found.
The property value of this area continues to rise due to its prime location and demands for retail and accommodation by tourists, which have also caused sales, room and shop rentals to increase. However, tourists who visit Petaling Street are advised to be wary of their surroundings and belongings at all times when shopping here as there is usually a number of pickpockets hovering around.
