Taman Barat is a residential neighbourhood located in Georgetown, Penang. The neighbourhood appears to have been around for quite some time with a range of freehold terraces, semi-detached as well as bungalow homes. In general, Taman Barat is quite peaceful and the homes and streets appear to be clean and uncluttered.

The single-storey terrace and semi-detached homes appear to be slightly older in age, though mostly very well maintained while the bungalow homes are evidently larger, with most of them being two storeys in height, and much newer. Most of the bungalows appear to have been individually designed and newly-built, contributing to the gentrification of Taman Barat.

Amenities within range of Taman Barat include schools such as SMK Padang Polo, SMK (Perempuan) St. George, SMJK (C) Union and educational institutions like the Penang Medical College, Kolej Latihan Pergigian Malaysia and Kolej Kejururawatan Pulau Pinang as well as a number of pre-schools. Hospital Pulau Pinang is also just about 5 minutes’ drive from Taman Barat.

While eateries, banks and convenience stores may not be within walking distance of Taman Barat, plenty of such conveniences can be found just a short drive away. In the city centre or Gurney Drive, both just under 10 minutes away, banks, supermarkets, restaurants, hawker centres and much more can be found.

Taman Barat which sits along Jalan Utama, is connected to other parts of the city via the intricate network of roads and lanes within the city. Major roads accessible to and from the neighbourhood include Jalan Macalister, Jalan Cantonment, Jalan Burma, Jalan Gottlieb and Jalan Kelawai. Upon connecting to the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway, the first Penang bridge will also be just 5 minutes away.

Given the strategic location of Taman Barat in Georgetown and their relatively large built-up sizes, it is no wonder that homes in the area could cost up to RM6,800,000 at the very least. However, should buyers or investors have the money for it, Taman Barat homes may be a good investment which can appreciate in value over time or even just as a place to settle down and raise a family.
