Kampung Baharu in Butterworth, Penang, is a neighbourhood of mostly commercial shop-lots, offices and apartments. Though most of the shop-lots and apartments were developed quite some years ago, there are also newer commercial projects which have cropped up in the area. There are also a few vacant parcels of land which can be bought to be developed or used for other purposes.
There are 3-storey and 4-storey shop-lots which appear to be older in age as well as a newer commercial square lined with 3-storey “bungalow” shop-lots and a hotel. There is also a recently-developed row of 3-storey shop-lots with wide glass window facades.
Apartments in Kampung Baharu include the low-cost Pangsa Perindu apartments and the mid-range Pangsapuri Cantik apartment which appears significantly newer. There are also shop-lots on the ground floor of the Pangsa Perindu apartments.
Kampung Baharu is situated along Jalan Raja Uda and is close to the Mak Mandin industrial area as well as a number of other matured commercial hubs and residential neighbourhoods. Accessibility-wise, Kampung Baharu is situated mere minutes from Butterworth Outer Ring Road, Lebuhraya Butterworth-Kulim and also the North-South Expressway (NSE). With that, the Butterworth Ferry and Bus Terminal is just a short 10-minute drive away while the first Penang bridge is only about 15 minutes away.
