Midlands One Stop, situated along Jalan Burma in Pulau Tikus, on the Penang Island, is a shopping mall that opened to the public in the 1990s. When it first opened, it was a vital convergence point for the citizens of Penang, as it had several anchor tenants that were popular at that time like the Looking Good departmental store. However, a few years after it was established, Malaysia’s economy took a hit, adversely impacting business at the mall. Since then, the Midlands One Stop mall has experienced vastly lower flow of traffic, particularly due to the increase of the income level of residents in its surroundings coupled with the fact that its shops are directed to lower income consumers, as well as the opening of other nearby higher end shopping malls, such as Gurney Plaza in 2001 and subsequently Gurney Paragon in 2013. Nevertheless, Midlands One Stop is still a place where one can go to get certain goods like electronic items, games or toys at more affordable prices compared to many other places. It is easy to get here, either by Rapid Penang buses 101, 102, 104 and 304, which stop right in front of the shopping mall. These buses originate from places like Teluk Bahang, Batu Ferringhi, Tanjung Bungah, Gurney Drive, the Georgetown jetty, Bayan Baru and Penang International Airport (in Bayan Lepas). Just opposite the mall, there is the Penang Adventist Hospital, while the mall is right next to the Georgetown City Hotel and Adventist College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Slightly further down the main road of Jalan Burma is the Consulate General of Indonesia, Apple 1 Hotel Gurney, SMK Convent Pulau Tikus and the Bellisa Row shops.
