About Bandar Tun Razak

Kuala lumpur

Located within Cheras and once known as Kampung Konggo or also Congo Village in the past, Bandar Tun Razak was a settlement for retired Malaysian army personnels who served in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 1960s. It was since then renamed to Bandar Tun Razak on 1st February 1984 by Malaysia’s fourth Prime Minister, and now has its own parliamentary constituency. The majority of Bandar Tun Razak’s citizens are reported to be senior citizens which generally make up 60% of its population. Additionally, it was reported in 2013 that the majority of the residents in Bandar Tun Razak falls in the low to middle income bracket, and that the constituency of Bandar Tun Razak has the highest number of low cost flats in the country totalling 16. As such, it was announced in 2012 that SP Setia would redevelop a few of the low cost flats by the name of Sri Johor, Sri Pulau Pinang and Sri Melaka, as well as the low cost homes neighbourhood by the name of Taman Ikan Emas. This RM2.8 billion project will be further complemented by another brand new highly affordable apartment project in the area that will cater to young executives, as well as a commercial centre of which both the residential and commercial developments are targeted to be completed within 14 or 15 years. Despite being a seemingly backwater township, Bandar Tun Razak has its own charm which is little known to outsiders, in form of its popular night bazaar that was opened on 24th June 2006, by the name of KL Downtown. Opening fairly late into the night to cater to night owls, this night bazaar also has an open stage for performances of various local artists.
