About Sungai Nibong

Properties for Rent in Sungai Nibong

Sungai Nibong is a neighbourhood situated on the east side of the Penang Island. Its name is taken from the name of the river flowing through the area, which had nibung palms growing on its banks. While the area does not have the glamorous or ritzy atmosphere of some other neighbourhoods, for example Gurney Drive or Batu Ferringhi, Sungai Nibong is still favoured by buyers or investors looking for residential units in a convenient location.

SInce 2005, Sungai Nibong (also spelled Sungai Nibung) has been the arrival and departure point for buses traveling to and from other parts of Peninsular Malaysia. In the late 1960s, the neighbourhood was also selected as the spot of the annual Pesta Pulau Pinang (or Penang Festival). Usually lasting for several months, the trade expo and festival features cultural activities, food fairs, art and craft bazaars and a family carnival.

Sungai Nibong has a mixture of residential and commercial properties. Krystal Point, the Krystal Point Corporate Park and Ideal Avenue are examples of commercial complexes that can be found here. The residential developments in Sungai Nibong range from medium-cost apartments to residential-cum-commercial developments, to luxury condominiums and landed properties.

Amenities are easily available in the vicinity of Sungai Nibong and its surroundings. These include eateries, clinics, grocery stores and places of worship. There are several schools in the area too, such as SJK (C) Kwang Hwa, SK Sungai Nibong and SMK Sungai Nibong, in addition to the Straits International School.

Less than 10 minutes away from Sungai Nibong is the Queensbay Mall, which is a hub for food & beverage, entertainment and retail outlets, as well as the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone, Batu Maung industrial area and the link to the Second Penang Bridge.

Sungai Nibong has considerably good connectivity to other parts of Penang with Georgetown located about 11km (or a 20-minute drive) away. The Sungai Nibong Highway stretches from Georgetown to Bayan Lepas, while the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (or Jelutong Expressway) is about 10 minutes away. Public buses that pass through the bus terminal and main roads of the neighbourhood include 101, 102, 301, 303, 304, 307 and 401E.
