Residents of the Klang Valley will have more reason to visit Setia Alam in the year 2020, upon the completion of the Setia Alam Mall expansion. The shopping mall which is currently sized at 730,000 sf will have another 450,000 sf of retail space added on to it in the coming year.

Valued at over RM5 million, this expansion will make Setia Alam Mall the largest shopping mall in Shah Alam. The Setia Alam Mall is a joint venture between SP Setia and Landlease, and is located on the southern corridor of Setia Alam.

According to Datuk Tan Hon Lim, Executive Vice President of S.P. Setia, the expansion of the Setia City Mall is in line with SP Setia’s long term vision for their investment property arm. As a mall located in the 4,000 acres flagship town of the Setia Group, Setia City Mall is in the position for steady growth as more residents move into the township. It is projected that Setia Alam will be home to approximately 200,000 residents upon its completion.

It is reported that 80% of the additional retail lots in the added space has already been leased, or is in advanced negotiations. The expansion will see an enhanced mix of tenants, providing patrons with a wider range of facilities, dining, fashion, and entertainment options. There will be an additional 150 retail outlets in addition to the current 235 retailers, which currently includes key tenants such as Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), Parkson, Fitness First, Zara, Uniqlo, H&M, and Urban Fresh.

In the expanded phase, patrons can expect a further mix of local and international brands. Some of the highlights of the incoming tenants include Lulu’s Hypermarket and Departmental Store from the Middle East, which commands a 32% market share in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region.

This 100% halal concept store will occupy 150,000 sf, with premium imported products such as the Lulu Tea, Lulu Coffee, and Lulu Coconut Oil. Visitors will also enjoy a wide range of offerings at the Lulu Hypermarket, including house brands of electrical, fashion, footwear, and lady handbag products.

Improving its appeal to families, the latest expansion will also include an edutainment playland. Located in the Kids Zone on Level 1, the edutainment centre will comprise 120,000 sf of indoor playground. Adding on to this, there will be an added variety of F&B outlets ranging from fast-food restaurants to casual dining brands and el fresco dining options.

The expansion plan will also include an additional 1,800 parking bays to the current 2,500 bays, and will total 4,300 parking bays upon completion. This is to ensure that drivers will be able to save time and enjoy hassle-free parking. The layout of the parking lot is also designed to provide easy access to the shopping mall from the parking lot, to ensure an enhanced shopping experience.

The Setia Alam Mall has always been successful, and the expansion is expected to add on to its appeal. The nearby Setia Convention Centre brings in millions of visitors, which the excess spills over to the mall. And neighbouring key communities such as the Top Glove building, NIH (National Institute of Health), SP Setia offices, as well as Tenby and Peninsular International Schools have also contributed a significant footfall to the mall.

Over 1mil sq ft mall??? wow

Many large shopping malls in Malaysia but pros and cons as always. Can have more retail shops but most of those stores will be smaller in size except they are anchor tenants like Aeon, cinemas etc. Have seen many smaller malls go bust because of competition. 

Nowadays it is uncommon to see more than 2 or 3 Starbucks, MCD's etc in the same mall.
