IJM Land has awarded an aspiring young interior designer the coveted Best Young Interior Designer of iLDA 2019 on the 21st of November. After 5 months of intense competition, the contest concluded with a fierce battle amongst two shortlisted contestants.

Of 116 preliminary entries, Lee Jun Yan and Boon Zi Yang were selected by a panel of judges to actualise their ideas. The competition’s theme was Modern Family & Spaces, and the selected space was Kalista 2 Executive Apartments, Seremban 2.

Both contestants were given only a space of 5 weeks to bring their ideas to fruition, with each given an empty unit to work on from the ground up. Both contestants went head-to-head, and ensured that their concepts came to life on every inch of their allocated apartment.

After a highly arduous journey, Lee Jun Yan from Reno Bros was crowned the Best Young Interior Designer of the iLDA 2019. Lee was surprised at his win, as he did not expect it. He also bagged the Public’s Choice Award and Media’s Choice Award during the event.

Said Dato’ Hoo Kim See, Senior General Manager, Central Region of IJM Land Berhad, “The iLDA 2019 is to ensure a healthy competitive environment among our local interior designers, where they are able to showcase their creative work and challenge the status quo of design.

“It is important that young interior designers evolve along with the ever-changing demands of this industry and we want to provide a platform that enables them to execute their work and give it the recognition it deserves.”

He also expressed his delight with the results of iLDA 2019’s competition, as they had received many quality submissions this year. It is Dato’ Hoo’s hope that the other contestants will continue to contribute greatly to the interior design industry in the years to come.

He also expressed surprise over the intensity of the competition over the past 5 months, where the participants drove to perform their very best to secure a victorious win.

Fandarie Su, Chief Judge of iLDA 2019, commented on the completed units at Kalista 2 Executive Apartments, “It is a feat for the contestants as they had captured the competition’s theme very well and executed their concepts and ideas beautifully with such tight deadlines in place. We would definitely encourage more young designers to step out of their comfort zone in pushing their creative boundaries and exploring more before settling in a creative unique style.”

Said Data Hoo, “I’m sure the final decision was a tough one to make for the panel judges as both units were equally great at encapsulating our competition’s theme. As we wanted this competition to be fair and just, the results is a compiled score from our esteemed panel of judges, while the public and the media voting was a separate initiative to gain further recognition for our contestants.”
