PR1MA may soon become more similar to the Singapore’s Housing Development Board (HDB). It was announced by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government that the affordable home program will be taking this turn of direction, in hopes of standardising and centralising the housing industry for easier enforcement and monitoring.

Ministry of Housing minister, Zuraida Kamaruddin, however, stated that PR1MA would not be soon dissolved, and that the department is in fact looking to create housing projects under the education and defence ministries.

PR1MA was set up in 2012 under the previous government through the PR1MA Act 2012. Its goal was to plan, develop, and construct quality homes for the middle-income group in key urban areas.

PR1MA chairman Tan Sri Eddy Chen Lok Loi was however recorded stating during the Napic Report Overview 2019-cum-Big Data Analytics Conference that many of the development’s locations were in “questionable” locations, which resulted in poor sales and an overhang in unsold properties.

Zuraida has however stated that the ministry has resolved some of the problems PR1MA was facing, including the issues of its overhang and unsold units.

Open to all Malaysians with a monthly income of between RM2,500 and RM15,000, the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) which ran from 1 March 2019 to 31 December 2019 garnered PR1MA 9,306 in unit sales and 19,170 in bookings.
