MIEA has in conjunction with the MAREC Summit 2020 launched its first-ever public awareness campaign on registered property agents. Coined #MYREALAGENTS, the campaign was announced during the Malaysian Annual Real Estate Convention (MAREC) Summit 2020.

The target crowd for the #MYREALAGENTS is first time home buyers and property renters who need to select Registered Estate Agents or Negotiators for their property needs. The aim is to reduce the number of cases of home buyers and renters being cheated by unscrupulous illegal brokers.

In a press statement by MIEA, Lim Boon Ping, President of MIEA stated, “This is the first time in MIEA’s 46 plus year history where we proactively developed a public-facing campaign towards improving the public’s awareness and understanding on the importance of choosing Registered Estate Agents or Negotiators, and how the public protect themselves. Buying, selling or renting property is a complex process so Malaysians should let the professionals help guide them”.

In lieu of the campaign, social media channels and a website has been set up, designed to educate the public on the importance of dealing only with registered agents or negotiators, and how to protect one’s self from illegal brokers.

Visitors to the website will be able to obtain guides to the legal aspects of buying, selling or renting properties, as well as tips and checklists on things to look out for when engaging a registered estate agent or negotiator.

MAREC Summit 2020 is the 34th edition of the summit, and hosted 400 Estate Agents and Negotiators who got to learn the latest market trends, and how to improve their soft skills, leverage on the latest technologies, and enhance their professionalism from the 32 speakers in attendance. The main theme was “Real Estate Practice Vision 2025: ‘Change or Die’”.

Said Boon Ping, “The main theme for MAREC SUMMIT 2020 is Real Estate Practice Vision 2025: ‘Change or Die’ and this is reflective of the real estate profession, adapting and leveraging on the changes brought about by technology. We want the real estate fraternity to grow and anticipate future trends and needs which is why MIEA is also collaborating with proptech companies to better serve our members.”

The MAREC Summit is an important platform for real estate practitioners, where they are able to gain new insights and ideas on how to achieve their peak performance in the industry. Of the topics held during this year’s Summit was on personal branding, understanding real estate cycles, inspirational stories, motivational insights, digital technology applications, selling skills development and the art of closing.

The MAREC Summit is held annually, creating a platform where real estate practitioners gather to exchange ideas and network.

While introducing the MIEA code of Ethics, Boon Ping stated, “As the industry grows in stature and importance, the need to uphold professionalism, integrity and being trustworthy is integral. MIEA, in leading the evolution of real estate leadership seeks to redress and streamline the level of professionalism where our registered estate agents and negotiators are instilled with a strong sense of responsibility and ethics which would ultimately benefit the public.”

Another great initiative by MIEA to create awareness on the need using only registered agents to conduct business. I hope that there will be good traction for this initiative so that the public will not be misled by unregistered agents.
