If you’re new to Sri Petaling and are still not familiar with the best places to eat in town, don’t worry. We’ve got your back. In this article, we listed ten of the most popular eateries and restaurants in the area. Their signature dishes include claypot chicken, curry laksa, Japanese soba, and Hakka noodles.

I. Clan Restaurant

This establishment in Jalan Radin is pretty popular with diners thanks to their signature dish, Gai Woh Bao, which roughly translates to chicken nest bun in English. The large bun is stuffed with pork, chicken, egg yolk, sticky glutinous rice, and mushrooms. There’s a large number of ingredients that it appears ready to burst from within the white bun, with gooey juices flowing from the interior. Eat while it’s still steaming hot and add chilli sauce for a bit of flare.

If that sounds tempting, we advise you to come early before 10am as the place is often crowded. Other top dishes sold at the place include braised chicken feet, steamed fish ball, bacon-wrapped dumplings, fried radish cake, prawn dumplings (har gao), pork dumpling (siu mai) and their golden bun, which is filled with custard.

II. Uncle Chong’s Kopitiam

In 2018, Malaysia’s iconic Curry Laksa was named by Lonely Planet as the second out of 500 must-try authentic dishes around the world before you kick the bucket. If you want to sample one of the best Curry Laksa in Kuala Lumpur, head over to this eatery along Jalan Jalil Perkasa 13 in the outskirts of Sri Petaling near Taman Esplanad.

The place may look lacklustre and the basement parking may creep you out, but it’s often packed during lunchtime due to their terrific Curry Laksa that is swimming with umami-goodness.

The secret is the laksa paste and curry powder, plus lots of ginger and lemon grass that boosts the flavour of the coconuty broth. If you’re already there, also try their steamed chicken rice or rice with roasted chicken, which are also among their top-selling dishes.

III. Tou Tou Little Kitchen

This restaurant along Jalan Radin Bagus in Sri Petaling has gained a throng of loyal patrons for their irresistible combo of thick or thin noodles Hakka noodles plus perfectly cooked pork chop.

You can order their springy homemade noodles that are cooked just about right and pair it with breaded pork chop fried to a perfect golden brown. You will keep coming back for more, for the meat that is tender on the inside and crisp on the outside.

Further enlivening the taste of the dish is the dash of chilli powder sprinkled on top of the pork chop, and the minced pork with chopped green onions on the noodles, along with the red sauce and savoury broth that are both served on separate bowls.

IV. Good Tea Restaurant

If you prefer a hearty meal of piping hot rice cooked in a traditional earthenware, along with a variety of different-tasting proteins, then head over to this eatery along Jalan Radin Anum 1. It’s recommended that you visit during the evenings, as the operator of the hawker stall is different during the day.

The claypot chicken served during the night shift is loaded with rice that is topped with chicken and Chinese sausages then sprinkled with chopped scallions. The chicken becomes really succulent during the cooking process. Add the tangy soy sauce, the smoky sweet-salty Chinese sausages and a plateful of onions and garlic, the end product is a dish filled with yummy goodness that will make you reminisce about the delicious home cooking of your mom.

Other favourite dishes at the place include pan mee, chu char, pork innards congee, teochew seafood porridge and steamed fresh fish.

V. Restaurant Ye Look

This place along Jalan Radin Tengah has earned a brilliant reputation for their Tai Chow dining concept. In the morning, the eatery is home to a number of hawker stalls that serve crowd favourites such as pan mee and chicken rice.

But at night, their famous crab with salted egg sauce is served, attracting diners from far and wide in Klang Valley who want to relish the delectable taste of the freshly caught crab drenched in savoury salted egg sauce.

Another top crustacean dish is their black pepper crabs, wherein its sauce gives a pleasant kick. We also recommend their Watermelon Pork Ribs and Chai Poh Tao, a stir fry consisting of diced preserved radish and long beans.

VI. Restaurant Fast Food Fish Head

If you frequently eat fried food, you have a higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease and even type 2 diabetes. So why not switch to a healthier alternative, such as steamed dishes. We suggest steamed wild fish as it’s rich in omega 3, which is not only vital for your brain and body but also helps unclog your arteries.

In Sri Petaling, a renowned spot that serves steamed fish is Restaurant Fast Food Fish Head. As a matter of fact, the place has been visited by many celebrities from Hong Kong, as shown by the photos adorning the wall of the place.

Among their top treats is their steamed fish with black beans, with crunchy ginger chips and thinly sliced green chillies. The freshness is guaranteed as the fish comes directly from a tank, and they offer a large variety of fish, like catfish, river goby, grass carp, crabs, mussels, and freshwater prawns.

VII. Ho Ho Steamboat Restaurant

This steamboat spot along Jalan Radin Anum 1 is quite famous thanks to their flavourful soup base and fresh seafood from Pulau Ketam island that are still alive and kicking. Add their in-house spicy sauce which further whets your appetite, and the end result is a heavenly feast.

You can opt for their clear peppery broth or the reddish tomyam soup. They offer a wide variety of ingredients, such as fresh fish, crab roe, shrimps, scallops, eggs, QQ tofu, veggies and 2 kinds of noodles. However, some clients have complained about the expensive price and their occasionally inconsistent service.

VIII. Padi House

If you’re craving for Western dishes, particularly Italian pasta, then drop by this restaurant in Jalan Radin Bagus. Their pesto fettuccine with grilled chicken is absolutely wonderful, with the aromatic taste of crushed pine nuts, liquefied basil and olive oil lingering in your mouth.

Another top-selling dish is their juicy grilled Mongolian lamb cutlet, covered with their homemade sauce. You can also try their flaky grilled salmon that’s drizzled with citrus juice, as well as their terrific almond dessert. Moreover, the place is relaxing and has a serene ambience. So if you’re on the lookout for a place to hang out and where you can eat a nice meal, then put this on your list.

IX. Menya Hanabi

This Japanese restaurant in Jalan Radin Bagus 6 is popular for their authentic Mazesoba that originated from Nagoya, Japan. Interestingly, Menya Hanabi is also the name of the place where the dish was invented.

Instead of noodles with broth, the dish consists of dry noodles and heaps of yummy ingredients. These include ground pork meat, raw egg yolk, mackerel flakes, dried seaweed, lettuce slivers and green onions.

The fusion of the thick and chewy ramen and its tasty accompaniments creates a wholesome meal that will sate you for a long time. Aside from that, the compact eatery will let you experience what it’s like eating at a restaurant in Japan, where land is scarce and pricey.

X. Al-Diafah

This elegantly-decorated Halal eatery along Jalan Radin Anum serves authentic Middle Eastern food, particularly dishes hailing from Yemen. Their repeat clients say that the restaurant serves one of the best Mandi Lamb Rice in Kuala Lumpur.

The dish consists of a large lamb shank cooked in a tandoor oven. The meat is placed over a heap of aromatic Basmati rice that is cooked from the spiced broth from which the lamb shank had been boiled for a long time. However, we need to warn you as the food here is expensive – but definitely worth the price.
