Sime Darby Property welcomes Dato’ Azmir Merican bin Azmi Merican as the new Group Managing Director today.
Formerly the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Edgenta Berhad, one of the largest asset management & infrastructure solutions companies in Asia with operations in six countries, Azmir brings with him a wealth of cross-functional experience from his background in corporate advisory and as a senior business leader. With an excellent track record of delivering results, his expertise covers organisational transformation, business restructuring, operational competence and corporate finance. UEM Edgenta Berhad’s ongoing transformation as a technology-driven company in the healthcare support services, property and facility solutions, and infrastructure sectors was spearheaded by Azmir.
With Azmir now leading the company as the Group Managing Director, Dato’ Wan Hashimi Albakri W.A.A Jaffri will resume his position as Chief Operating Officer, Township Development.
Sime Darby Property also welcomes Ir Mohd Sohimin bin Mohd Alayedin as the company’s Chief Special Projects Officer. Ir Mohd Sohimin was the former Executive Director of Tropicana Corporation Berhad, with more than 29 years of experience in property development and construction. A professional engineer, Ir Mohd Sohimin holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from California State University, USA and is currently a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia. Ir Mohd Sohimin had previously held senior positions in various companies including Glenmarie Properties Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DRB Hicom Bhd, Kumpulan Hartanah Selangor Bhd and Sunway City Berhad, among others.
Sime Darby Property Chairman, Tan Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz, welcomed the appointment of the new members saying, “I am pleased to welcome the new line up in Senior Management, who possess in their respective backgrounds, a wealth of experience and are well-positioned to steer the company forward in an environment that is beset with great global economic uncertainties”.
The Sime Darby Property Board of Directors also acknowledges Dato’ Wan Hashimi’s role in navigating the company to sustain its performance during his eleven-month tenure.
Also joining the Senior Management line-up is Izzat Alhadjri who was appointed as the company’s Acting Head of Corporate Communications, effective 1 April 2020. Holding a Bachelor of Laws from King’s College London and a Master of Science in Regulations from London School of Economics & Political Science, Izzat will oversee the full spectrum of Corporate Communications including Media & Public Relations, Social Performance, Government Relations and the overall Stakeholder Management.
