Bedroom home property

Bedrooms are the focal point in any home as it is the space in which you rest or relax after a long day outside. As such, it's important to make it as comfortable as possible. However, if you find that you're having a hard time falling asleep or staying asleep, one reason for this apparent discomfort could be the design of your bedroom itself.

Consider some of these aspects that you can change or improve:

1.The brightness levels

Our bodies are naturally wired to only fall asleep when there's an adequate level of darkness. In the past, before electricity was invented, the only source of light was fire from candles and wicks. However, nowadays, you face lights from the street lamps outside your home and various electronic gadgets within the home. You can begin by minimizing the amount of ambient light in your room by using heavier curtains, and removing unnecessary electronics like laptops, tablets and bright alarm clocks. If you must have a light turned on while you sleep, consider a soft and warm light instead of fluorescent lamps.

2. Too hot to handle

Malaysian tropical weather means that some parts of the year are hotter than others. Make sure that your room isn't too warm for you to sleep in. If possible, you might want to consider installing an air conditioner if you haven't already. Also, avoid using heavy comforters and stick with a moderate or thin blanket.

3. Calming colours set the mood

The colours of your room can also determine how calm you are when going to bed. It's best to paint your room in soft pastels and earthy colours. Avoid loud shades like bright red or purple as this can over stimulate you brain. Soft blues and greens are the best, and this applied to the furniture in the room as well.Try to keep everything soft and neutral throughout.

4. A Comforting Scent

One way to overcome tension and relax your muscles before bedtime is by indulging in a little aromatherapy. You can either burn scented candles or your favourite scent in your bedroom for half an hour after you return from work, or use an essential oil diffuser. Some of the scents that work best to promote rest and relaxation include lavender, chamomile, ylang ylang, bergamot and lemongrass.

5. Time to De-Clutter in a Flutter

Removing clutter and storing everything away in your room will do wonders for your psyche. Studies have shown that messy rooms actually do more to stress our minds out at night. Make sure that your room has enough storage space for everything you own. You can always consider installing more ceiling to floor storage spaces so that there won't be a need to stack things on the floor or in a corner.

It doesn't take much to turn your bedroom into a haven for weary and tired bones. If you need help in transforming your bedroom, you can always contact any of the interior design or renovation services here at Kaodim.

@domng Hi, thanks for commenting. Yes, we totally agree that the harsh blue light emitted from our phones/devices are really harmful to our health. Switching it to "Night Mode" does reduce the damage, but it doesn't prevent it from damaging our eyes or affecting our sleep. It's always best to refrain from using our gadgets at least 30 minutes before bedtime. :)
