Sime Darby Property Berhad (“Sime Darby Property” or “Company”) is pleased to announce the success of KL East Mall’s inaugural Hari Raya Aidilfitri campaign which has raised over RM60,000 to benefit children with autism from B40 families. KL East Mall is Sime Darby Property’s first wholly-owned mall which was opened in November 2020.

At the launch of KL East Mall’s inaugural Hari Raya Aidilfitri campaign, ‘Indahnya Syawal, Kemeriahan Dirai’ on 9 April 2021, the Company announced its partnership with Yayasan Pendidikan Insani, a not-for-profit foundation that provides affordable care, education and therapy for children with autism from low-income families, with an initial aim to raise RM50,000 for the cause.

Sime Darby Property’s Group Managing Director, Dato’ Azmir Merican said that the Company has always supported causes that not only benefit the community but also bring greater awareness and are educational to the public.

“On top of raising funds for the deserving children, the aim of the campaign is to help the public to better understand autism and the challenges faced by the children. Through this campaign, we have managed to raise awareness and we are encouraged with the participation from our tenants and patrons throughout the campaign period. Thank you to everyone who contributed generously to this cause, allowing us to exceed our initial fundraising target even during this challenging time,” he said.

The ‘Indahnya Syawal, Kemeriahan Dirai’ campaign’s success can be attributed to shoppers who donated a minimum of RM10 to colour a piece of the puzzle from a large artwork or contribute

a minimum of RM35 to receive an exclusive tote bag designed by Malaysian fashion brand Fiziwoo and renowned celebrity Datuk Chef Wan. Habib Jewels, which officially opened its doors at KL East Mall in April also contributed 100% proceeds from the sales of 300 pieces of limited-edition pure gold wafers worth RM118 each to the cause.

Sime Darby Property is guided by its Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) commitments which are aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) via 18 Sustainability Goals targeted to be achieved by 2030.

The Company actively organises initiatives that benefit different-abled children, namely the “Run with Autism” campaign held in February last year. Sime Darby Property has also built Malaysia’s first “Inclusive Playground” in the City of Elmina, its flagship township in Shah Alam, Selangor to level the playing field for children of all abilities.
