Taman Budiman is a small neighbourhood in Bukit Mertajam, not to be confused with the neighbourhood of a similar name located in Alor Setar, Kedah. Penang’s Taman Budiman consists of several roads with properties like freehold 1-storey and 2-storey terraced houses, in addition to 1-storey shop lots. Overall, Taman Budiman is a suitable neighbourhood for singles, couples and small families with family members working in the nearby business centres or industrial area such as the light industrial factories of Permatang Tinggi and Asas Jaya. The neighbourhood is situated extremely close to AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam, where one can find a cinema, international fashion brand outlets, bookstores and of course, eateries. The mall was opened in 2014, and is until now still a popular converging point for residents of Bukit Mertajam. Slightly further away from Taman Budiman is Tesco Bukit Mertajam. From Taman Budiman, it is just a short distance to Jalan Rozhan, one of the area’s principal roads, which then leads to the trunk road, Jalan Permatang Tinggi. However, residents staying in the neighbourhood will most likely need to rely on either private vehicles or taxis to get around the area, as the nearest bus station is almost 3km away. Several schools are also within a reasonable driving distance from Taman Budiman, such as SK Alma Jaya, SK Taman Impian, SMK Alma, SMK Jalan Damai and SMK Taman Perwira. There is even a SK Pendidikan Khas Alma – a school for visually impaired students – just 4km from the neighbourhood. In terms of medical facilities the nearest hospital, about 7km away, is Hospital Bukit Mertajam.
