Taman Merbau Indah is a neighbourhood situated off the main road of Jalan Lahar Yooi, in the township of Sungai Dua, Penang. Along this road, one can find different types of businesses in the neighbourhood such as convenient stores, bakeries, mini marts and eateries, in addition to a multipurpose hall. Towards one end of the area, there are also a few mosques, namely Masjid Merbau Kudung and Masjid Jamik Al-Marbawi, as well as a plant nursery.
Other than commercial lots, Taman Merbau Indah is also home to landed houses like 2-storey terrace houses and semi-detached houses with distinctive-looking facades, as well as 3-storey bungalows designed with wide car porches accommodating at least 4 cars and spacious first floor outdoor patios.
While there are some but not many amenities to speak of within Taman Merbau Indah itself due to the neighbourhood being mostly residential, surrounding it are several schools like SK Sungai Dua, SMK Desa Murni, SMK Datuk Haji Ahmad Said and SJK (C) Kai Chee. The Sungai Dua town centre is also nearby, giving residents effortless access to clinics, eateries, mini markets, a wet market, post office, police station, petrol stations, printing shops and boutiques.
Residents who rely on buses as their main mode of transport will find Taman Merbau Indah’s location convenient, as there are bus stops along the aforementioned Jalan Lahar Yooi. Rapid Penang buses 602 and 606 pass by these stops on their routes to and fro from Penang Sentral, Tasik Gelugor (North Seberang Perai), Penaga and Bukit Mertajam.
And for those who drive, Taman Merbau Indah is just 2km from the North-South Expressway (NSE), and 15km or less to the Penang Bridge that links the mainland to the Penang Island. One downside of the neighbourhood, however, is that it is quite a distance – about 10km – to the nearest hospital, Hospital Kepala Batas.
