Taman Desa Palma is a relatively new residential neigbourhood located in Bukit Mertajam, Penang. It consists of various designs of terrace and semi-detached houses, as well as 3-storey detached houses. There is also a 5-storey freehold walk up flat, Pangsapuri Desa Palma, at one end of the neighbourhood.

Residents and visitors can reach Taman Desa Palma via several roads, including Lorong Damai 1 and Jalan Alma. The latter is a main road in the area, leading to the Alma Business Centre and Rozhan Business Centre, where one can find many different facilities and amenities like convenience stores, supermarkets, food courts, eateries, dentists, clinics, pharmacies, auto parts shops, banks and even two schools – SJK (C) Sin Ya and SJK (T) Ladang Alma.

In short, Taman Desa Palma can be said to have a very convenient location. Slightly over 1km away, there are two secondary schools, SM Sains Tun Syed Sheh Shahabudin and SMK Jalan Damai. However, the neighbourhood is not suitable for those relying on buses to get around as there are none in the vicinity.

Within a radius of 10 minutes from Taman Desa Palma, there are also a few other commercial areas, such as the Maju Utama Business Centre and the Seri Impian Business Centre. The latter is also where you can find AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam, a sizable mall with brands like Daiso, Popular Bookstore and Uniqlo, in addition to a cinema (TGV Cinemas).

If residents are willing to drive a little further – about 4km – they will reach the town centre of Bukit Mertajam. Here, there are more amenities like banks, houses of worship, a police station, post office, hotels, schools like Jit Sin Independent High School, SMK Bukit Mertajam, SK Kampung Baru, SJK (C) Kim Sen, SK Convent Bukit Mertajam, SMK Convent (M) Bukit Mertajam and SK Stowell, as well as Hospital Bukit Mertajam along Jalan Kulim.
