Jalan Air Itam runs along the fringes of Jelutong and goes though the town of Air Itam in Penang. Jalan Air Itam is the most frequently used road to travel from Georgetown to the town of Air Itam where the Kek Lok Si Temple is located. Unsurprisingly, many homes and commercial shop lots have been built along the road throughout the decades with some pre-war buildings also located along the busy road. Properties along Jalan Air Itam range from residential to commercial titles, with the pre-war buildings now turned into shop lots and offices. Older “kampung” homes and single-storey terraces built in the mid to late 20th century can also be seen adjacent to the route. Given the traffic that goes through Jalan Air Itam, many of the terrace homes have also been turned into commercial shops. Jalan Air Itam itself is lined with a variety of amenities housed within the many commercial shop lots there. Amenities range from the usual convenience stores to confectionary shops and florists. In the town of Balik Pulau, there are even banks and several hawker centres, eateries and cafes on either side of the road. Jalan Air Itam is a major arterial road in the Georgetown network of roads and lanes which connect different parts of the city, with a number of important roads such as Jalan Perak, Jalan Masjid Negeri, Jalan Lumba Kuda, Lorong Batu Lanchang and Jalan Paya Terubong branching from it. Given its role in the accessibility of many parts of the city, Jalan Air Itam will remain a heavily travelled road and as such, properties along the major road, whether residential or commercial, may see a steady appreciation and enjoy constant demand.
