Pengerang is a small town in the southeast side of Johor, adjacent to Singapore and to the south of Desaru. From Pengerang, there is a road leading to Sungai Rengit, a larger town where food and lodgings can be found.

The small town is blessed with an abundance of natural resources, sea life, and unique landform which makes it a popular tourist destination for their neighbours across the Causeway. Another popular tourist destination is the Pengerang coastal batteries which is a heritage trail of World War II. Constructed at the mouth of Sungai Santi, the coastal batteries were eventually abandoned after the war.

In 2011, the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC), a project by Rapid, was announced to be sited in the town which will house oil refineries, naphtha crackers, petrochemical plants, and be used as a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal and regasification plant. Even though the project will be able to create job opportunities, the residents protested against the project as it means that many homes, schools, and religious places of worship will be displaced and removed just to make way for the project development.

Rental rates and real estate prices have substantially increased following the successful developments of infrastructure by Petronas and Dialog Group Bhd, an oil and gas multi-discipline technical service provider. If all plans to turn the small town into a major oil and gas hub progresses well, this shows that there is a strong economic potential for property development.
