Jalan Ipoh is an area located along a famous street within the heart of Kuala Lumpur, with a healthy mix of high end upcoming developments as well as low cost flats. With a majority population of Chinese in this area, roadside food stalls are popular, serving the best of local Chinese cuisines.

Due to its excellent location within minutes of the upmarket Mont Kiara and being within minutes of the city centre, Jalan Ipoh is an area that is now being heavily developed by enterprising developers with equally hefty price tags.

There are however many who scorn these developments, as besides the majority of them being leasehold, are also surrounded by low cost flats; confounding the need to pay close to six figures for a home in the area.

Jalan Ipoh is famous for its highly affordable wedding boutiques besides its cuisines, which draws visitors from all walks of lives. However due to the area’s marked prosperity, snatch thefts are generally rampant as well and visitors should be cautious of these atrocities.

Consumer Price Index

This is a representation of Kuala Lumpur Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the year of 2011 - 2015

Did you know?

A consumer price index (CPI) measures changes in the price level of a market basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households. (Wikipedia)

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.363% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 1.633% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 3.308% in the year 2014 while surging by 3.019% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 104.1 in 2012, 105.8 in 2013, 109.3 in 2014, 112.6 in 2015.

Jalan Ipoh is a mixed area filled with food, neighbourhoods and SME shops. Batu 2 has a row of shops selling toilet and tiles accessories which is great for people looking to renovate their houses within the vicinity.

A crowded neighbourhood during peak hours, in the morning and in the afternoon around 3pm as there is a secondary school nearby. However, it is quite convenient by variety of F&B choices and an event venue - KLPAC. It is linked to some parts of KL city centre... See More
within 15 minutes. If the F&B in the area does not satisfy personal needs, there is a mall nearby - Publika, which is just within 15 minutes drive.

Favourite dim sum and hokkien mee stop! Although traffic can be a little overwhelming during peak hours, it tends to cool off during normal working hours. Accessibility wise, I would consider it to be quite convenient too as the Sentul Timur LRT and Segambut KTM is... See More
not too far off from the town side.
