Pantai is a small yet mature and distinguished neighbourhood within Kuala Lumpur. A large majority of residents living in this area are expatriates, foreigners, and the affluent, with Bangsar as its immediate and equally affluent neighbour. Pantai is located just a short distance away from the city centre, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Mont Kiara, and Petaling Jaya, all within short driving distance.

The neighbourhood of Pantai is primarily a very old housing area dedicated to residential homes without shops or commercial development. As many of its residents come from affluent backgrounds, renovation and constant upgrading of the existing homes are a common sight. A good majority of the houses in Pantai are bungalows, and of late, there has been a good number of high rise development and single-storey terrace houses.

The residents of Pantai are very well cared for thanks to its good provision of amenities and facilities within the neighbourhood. Residents get to enjoy the excellent quality services of Pantai Medical Centre, the closest medical centre for many in Pantai and Bangsar. Top international schools and exclusive shopping malls are also available within driving and walking distance.

Accessibility into Pantai is highly convenient as there are many expressways and highways leading into and out of the area. Jalan Maarof is connected to the SPRINT Highway, which is the easiest access to Pantai, while the NKVE and LDP provide just as good access as the other highways.

Residents can also use public transportation provided, as the KL Sentral station is less than 10 minutes away from Pantai, and the Bangsar LRT station is just a train ride away from the KL Sentral station. Public buses and taxis also frequently pass through the area.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.363% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 1.633% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 3.308% in the year 2014 while surging by 3.019% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 104.1 in 2012, 105.8 in 2013, 109.3 in 2014, 112.6 in 2015.
