Neighbourhood Review

Segambut is a comparatively large slum area located just across the Keroh River from Mont Kiara. There is much squatter areas within the heart of the area, much as Mont Kiara once used to be, and is known to be a low cost area.

Due to its proximity to Mont Kiara, the edges of Segambut are slowly being encroached on by new developments, mostly high rises, as land in Mont Kiara is becoming a much valued commodity due to the lack of it.

The majority of the residents in this area are of the lower income group, with the majority of the ethnic groups here being of the Malay population. The landscape of Segambut is expected to be transformed over the coming years, with its transformation beginning now.

Consumer Price Index

This is a representation of Kuala Lumpur Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the year of 2011 - 2015

Did you know?

A consumer price index (CPI) measures changes in the price level of a market basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households. (Wikipedia)

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.363% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 1.633% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 3.308% in the year 2014 while surging by 3.019% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 104.1 in 2012, 105.8 in 2013, 109.3 in 2014, 112.6 in 2015.

Community of Segambut

This area is super congested during working hours. Especially the small road leading towards Garden International. And have lots of new condo starting to handover and will add up to the traffic..
Some part of the area is developing now. You can experience a juxtaposition. It's also close to prime area like Kuala Lumpur, Mont Kiara and Hartamas. The nearest commuter would be KTM Segambut. The road works are really bad now. Probably because of the... See More
construction that is happening left and right.
