Description

Jalan Imigresen is a small road located in Georgetown, Penang. The road begins with Jalan Burma on one end and Jalan Padang Victoria on the other. It is said that Jalan Imigresen gotten its name from the government quarters located at the end of Jalan Burma, which had housed staff from the Immigration Department. The quarters have now been refurbished and repurposed into a hotel called the 1926 Heritage Hotel, visible along Jalan Burma.

Lined along Jalan Imigresen are double-storey colonial terrace homes, with a few being turned into commercial lots. The homes are about 2,000 sf in built-up size with a narrow and long car porch which fits a car or two. Many of the homes have been refurbished and appear to be quite well taken care of.

Amenities within the vicinities of Jalan Imigresen are aplenty along Jalan Burma, with restaurants, eateries, cafes, convenience stores, banks and more. There are also quite a number of schools in the area, including SMK Westlands, which is just off Jalan Padang Victoria on the other end of the road. SRJK (C) Union is also just a street away along Jalan Mandalay, parallel to Jalan Imigresen. Educational institutions like KDU Penang University College and Wawasan Open University, as well as hospitals, namely, the Gleneagles Penang Medical Centre, Public Specialist Centre and also Island Hospital are nearby.

Jalan Imigresen is highly accessible to and from other parts of the city, with the extensive network of roads and lanes which spread out across Georgetown. Apart from Jalan Burma, other major roads within proximity of Jalan Imigresen include Jalan Perak, Jalan Kelawai, Gurney Drive, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Jalan Macalister and more. The Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway and Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah also connect to other parts of the island and both Penang bridges.

With the soaring prices of pre-war buildings in Georgetown, the colonial homes along Jalan Imigresen have also appreciated in value, with subsale prices beginning from RM1,500,000. Rental is also set at very high monthly rates of about RM3,000.
