It is always a headache when it comes to giving the best education to your child. With so many schools in Klang Valley, we will help you ease your headache by listing out 10 best schools within the region; 5 international, and 5 from the list of cluster and high performing schools.

The schools have also been selected based on the density of its nearby townships, so if you do stay nearby, you're in luck! For those who aren't, don't forget your bus or train routes!

*The schools are ranked in no order, and government schools are picked out from state education department lists.


International Schools

These schools are ones that provide a different set of curriculum from the government schools. Consisting not only of local students, these schools have a set of facilities that ensures a holistic schooling experience for your child, and they usually accommodate a wider range of students, from pre-school to high-school stages. It does however come with a high price, but there are some schools that won't burn too big of a hole in your wallet.


1. Sri Kuala Lumpur, Subang Jaya

What started out as a school with only 6 students in 1979, has now expanded into one of the most iconic international schools in Subang Jaya. The school complex is made up of 3 blocks, each with 4 floors, and 72 classrooms. The school takes in primary and secondary school students, and will be provided with Cambridge Primary and Cambridge IGCSE syllabuses. Parents will have to pay a total of RM227,820 (price as of 2016), and their children will be able to enjoy facilities such as fully air-conditioned classrooms, a 25-metre swimming pool, and some state-of-the-art sports facilities.

2. Beaconhouse Sri Inai International School (BSIIS), Petaling Jaya

One of the two international schools under the Beaconhouse group, the school is located in Taman Sea, Petaling Jaya. BSIIS also teaches its students under the Cambridge Syllabus, and takes up pre-school students as well, known as “Reception” in their settings. Costing a total of RM256,820 (price as of 2017), there will also be discounts available for siblings of students who enrolled in the school. The school also boasts a music room, as well as a speech and drama room as part of its facilities.

3. REAL International School, Cheras

Also known as the Suria Campus, the international school founded in 1985, houses both international and private schools. There is also accommodation within the school compounds, which stretches up to 10 acres, and students can opt for boarding school as well. The network also includes campuses in Shah Alam and Johor Bahru, but we will be focusing on Cheras for this round. The school also emphasizes rather heavily on creative studies, mainly Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Fine Art. Total school fees will come up to RM267,700 (refer to #10).

4. USCI International School, Subang Jaya

The international school, owned by the UCSI group is located in the middle of the industrial area of SS13. Just like its neighbouring international school, Sri KL, the school offers British syllabus to its students. However, one aspect that differs it from its district competitor is that it offers pre-school education as well. Teachers in the school are mostly local, with an average of 6 to 8 years of teaching experience in international schools globally. Parents will have to pay a total of RM321,180 (refer to #14) from pre-school to Year 12.

5. The International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL), Ampang

One of the oldest international schools in Kuala Lumpur having formed in 1965, it is also the first international school to offer an American-based curriculum. The school also has one of the most expensive fees in the country, totalling up to RM1,170,800 (refer to #2). However, students graduate with an American High School Diploma, and will be provided with facilities such as a climbing walls, computer labs with Apple computers and covered recreational areas.

Cluster Schools of Excellence / High Performance Schools

These schools are the cream of the crop, recognized around the region as one of the few best schools.

A short run through of how the schools were awarded, is via the Ministry of Education's National Key Performing Areas (NKRA), and the schools are under the watchful eyes of the Ministry's School Inspectorate. Cluster Schools are schools that are well known in a certain subject or extra-curricular activity, while High Performance Schools are selected via the Grade Point Average (GPA) of national examinations, such as UPSR, PT3 and SPM. 1. Catholic High School, Petaling Jaya (Cluster School)

Catholic High School, located in the heart of the Petaling Jaya Old Town, is very well known for its excellence in the Chinese language, as well as ping pong, thus receiving cluster school status over the two achievements. Academically, the school achieved the best SPM Grade Point Average (GPA) in the Petaling Utama district for the year 2015. The school also has a strong alumni network, which office is also based in Petaling Jaya.

2. SJK (C) Lick Hung, Subang Jaya (High Performance School)

Located in SS19, Subang Jaya, the school is well known for its academic achievements, being the only Chinese primary school to be selected as a High Performance School in Selangor. The school has such a reputation that potential students, as of 2016, are required to do a written examination as part of application procedures. The case was found to be too overwhelming by most parents.

3. SMK Aminuddin Baki, Ampang / Melawati (High Performance School)

This is another High Performance School, this time located in Ampang. The school was selected as a cluster school in the 90s, before achieving its current status in 2010. The school excels in almost every aspect, with activities such as F1 in Schools being a constant feature, where students from schools around the nation compete to create the prototype of the F1 car of the future. The best part is, they get to race the cars as well (although the cars are 1:144 scale)! Recently, Lee Yiat Xin, a student of the school, participated in the KL SEA Games as part of the national synchronised swimming team.

4. SMK USJ 12, Subang Jaya (Cluster School)

SMK USJ 12 is a cluster school well known for its achievements in the subjects of mathematics and athletics. Much so, as the students of the school emerged champions in last year’s Ultimate Mathematics Challenge, a state-level competition held by the students of Universiti Teknologi MARA Puncak Alam. Recently as well, a student of theirs won year 2017's edition of the Blackpool Dance Festival, beating over 50 international competitors.

5. SMK Damansara Utama, Damansara (Cluster School)

SMK Damansara Utama excels in English language and its uniformed units, gaining cluster status based on the two achievements. One of its biggest achievements as recorded on their website was their success in cultivating 10 King Scouts for the Petaling Region.

Yea, sending the kids to the international school may not mean you are the best parents, spending that much of money when you don't let the children to mix with all rounder of peoples will make them more ego and some may even look down on others and will only compares.
